Her brother turns her over to the Sisterhood to be come a Sister and Mary falls deeply in love with an old friend, while she is working she meets a girl named Gabriell who is from outside of the village. Mary has to make a painful choice after the Unconsecrated breech the fences and come into the village; whether to stay in the place where she grew up or to venture out into the Forest of Hands and Teeth.
