Mark of the Golden Dragon
L. A Meyer
Jacky Faber is stranded again! After a terrible storm at sea Jacky is blown overboard with her young Indian servant Ravi. They wake up on a strange beach and after taking out a tyrant that is running a small fishing village. They steal his boat and sail towards a place called Rangoon and Jacky must go under cover so she does not get into trouble. But they are soon found out and are taken to a Chinaman named Chopstick Charlie, Jacky makes friends with him and his daughter and helps to rescue her after she is taken captive. Together with her friends on the Nancy B. Alsop, Jacky's old ship Jacky sails back to England to try and rescue Jaimy who has become lost in his grief over Jacky's assumed death.
The second to last book. It's an adventure all of its own, even if you have not really read the rest of the series you will probably enjoy this book as it introduces new characters. I loved this book but the ending is kind of sad. My favorite part was when Jacky dressed up as an Indian girl and pretended to be a prostitute in order to kidnap Flashby to give him to Jaimy. I would recommend this book to anyone who has been reading the series. A great book I can not wait to read the last book.

Adventure
The Wake of the Lorelei Lee
L.A. Meyer
Is this the end of Jacky Faber? Have her daring escapades finally come to an end? After returning from her adventure diving for Spanish gold, she quickly bought herself a ship with some of the money that she came by during her diving (hey King George got most of it). But it seems as though someone is onto her; her old enemies Bliffil and Flashby have locked her up in New Gate prison and sentenced her to be delivered to the new colony in Australia. As if that is not enough they make her a prisoner on her own ship! But Jacky soon finds her way into the Captain's heart and is given some privileges. But what happens when the Captain dies and the randy First Mate sets his eyes on Jacky and what he has planned for her is definitely unpleasant.
This book was one of my favorites in the series. I love it because there is a lot of victorious moments and some glorious reunions. My favorite part was when the other prison ship containing the boys catches up with Jacky's ship and Ian comes aboard and kills the First Mate because he killed his baby. I also love the part when Jacky becomes the pet of a fearsome female pirate. I would recommend this book to anyone that has been reading this series and to adults and teens who like adventures on the high seas.

Rapture of the Deep
L.A Meyer
Today is the day! Jacky Mary Faber is to be joined in holy matrimony to her beloved James Emerson Fletcher. But as she drives towards her soon to be husband she is captured again by the British Intelligence. This time they are sending her to Spain to dive for sunken treasure, and ti help her out the newly invented diving bell that may do her more harm then good. Though even though this is supposed to be a secret mission Jacky may end up having to leak a little information if she wants to stay safe in Spanish waters.
I still love this series, this book was definitely very well written. It has pirate encounters, adventures in the briny deep and even a little bit of romance (but not too much). My favorite part was when Jacky went down in the bell for the first time, the description of the water and the fish was so realistic. I think that this book would be good for people that love pirate stories and who have been reading the series because it is starting to tie into the other books. It is a great book that makes you want to run out and grab the next one.

Fiction
Airman
Eoin Colfer
Conor Broekhart was born in a balloon and ever since then he has wanted to fly. Living on the island of Great Salty off the coast of Ireland with a soldier for a father, a princess for a best friend, and a teacher who will help him get back to the air. His life is going just fine until Conor finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, he just witnessed the assassination of the King and his teacher. The killer then makes it look as though Conor had something to do with it and locked him away on the little prison island Little Salty. Now Conor must find a way to survive long enough to get off the island and some how get back to Great Salty in order to clear his name.
This was a good book I listened to this with my family on our road trip and everyone liked it. My favorite part is when Conor and Isabella light the tower on fire and Conor saves her. I would recommend this book to kids and teens who are interested with flying and aviation as it talks a lot about planes and other flying machines.

Mystery
Bride Collector
Ted Dekker
Brad Raines is a special agent with the FBI and he has just been called out to another horrific crime scene. But this one is not the first, it seems as though the serial killer known as the "Bride Collector" has claimed his fourth victim. None of the women have anything in common except the way they were killed, each was tranquilized with manicures and make up done, and then had their blood drained through their feet. No leads no DNA, nothing. That is until the forensic examiner discovers a small role of paper hidden on the body, this is the first communication from the killer. Now Brad must try to solve the Bride Collector's riddles in order to save the "favorites". But the Rainman better watch out because the Bride Collector is much smarter than they think and he has a plan that could really hit home with the Special Agent.
This is a really good murder mystery without too much blood and gore. There is even a little bit of a romance angle played in here as well. I have read this book twice and each time I read this I am amazed by Ted Dekker's work, he is a great author. My favorite part is when Paradise stands up to the Bone Collector when he threatens Brad. I would recommend this book to teens and parents who do not want their kids reading to much with blood and gore.
If you want to read more of Ted Dekker's work check out the Boneman's Daughter and the Priest's Graveyard

Adventure
My Bonny Light Horseman
L.A. Meyer
The famous Jacky Faber has been captured yet again by the Royal Navy. Shortly after reuniting with her beloved James Emerson Fletcher on his way to Jamaica, she takes her newly acquired ship the Nancy B. Alsop and sets sail to start transporting cargo up and down the American coast. However her dream of being a simple merchant was soon crushed as the Royal Navy captures her boat. Despite her disguise she is soon recognized by a fiend from her past, the bully Bliffil. On the way back to Britain the ship is taken by the French and all of the crew is sent to a French prison. But right before Jacky is sent to the dreaded guillotine for her execution she is saved by a British spy, he takes her to Head Quarters were she finds out that in order to save her life she will have to become a spy. But Jacky is not so keen on this idea as her cover on this mission is a dancer that is giving out a little bit more than just dancing. Now Jacky has to find a way to preform her duty and escape which could get her into a lot more trouble than she realizes.
This book was pretty good, not my favorite one of the series but still very good. My favorite part is when Jacky goes out to a cafe with her spy handler. I like this part because her handler and her end up getting pretty close and the things that he tells Jacky are very sweet. I would recommend this book to teens and adults who are reading this series and are interested in reading the rest of it. I would also recommend this book to anyone who likes war stories and even love stories, this book is set during Napoleon's take over and has a lot of good little facts about history thrown in a good prize for history lovers.

Adventure
Mississippi Jack
L. A. Meyer
Miss Jacky Faber and the Lawson Peabody girls have just returned to the states from their long confinement on the vile slaver Bloodhound. They are welcomed with great cheers and applause from their families and yes even their sweethearts. However as soon as Jacky steps onto the gangway she is stopped and arrested for piracy. Suddenly chaos erupts on the docks arrows are flying as well as curses and several disgusting animal parts. But the great Jacky Faber is thrown into the brig, but not after the noble James Emerson Fletcher tries to rescue her but is himself pressed into the service. As they set off they are stopped by a troop of British Red Coats (which are secretly Jacky's friends in disguise) they rescue her and Jacky makes her escape to the wild Mississippi and down to New Orleans. on the way down she meets up with some very colorful river folk including a large and usually very drunk Mike Fink, the king of the river, a band of pirates nestled in Cave in Rock, and many different tribes of Indians.
This is my favorite book of the series, I have read this book many many times and it is still a great read. My favorite part of the book is when Jacky meets Mike Fink for the first time because he dances around and shouts out about how great he is. I would recommend this book to teens and adults who like a little bit of history mixed into their fiction and who like good all out brawls.

L. A. Meyer
After setting almost half of the town of Boston on fire, Jacky Faber ran to the docks yet again. This time to be put on a whaling ship known as the Pequod. When the voyage is over she sets off to find her one true love James Emerson Fletcher, but when she arrives at his home his witch of mother tells her that Jaimy wants nothing to do with her. However Jacky gets a rare stroke of luck and finds out that Jaimy still loves her and that he will be at the race track if she wanted to see him. While on board Jacky finds out that she may be in more trouble than she realizes. She must quickly make friends with her fellow shipmates if she is to escape.
This was very good book filled with several interesting plot twists. My favorite part of this book was when Jacky was in trouble and her fellow seamen came to her rescue by threatening to mutiny. I recommend this book to anyone who likes good series, a touch of romance, and maybe even some piracy.

L.A Meyer
The redoubtable Jacky "Mary" Faber has returned to the Lawson Peabody School for young girls in order to become a fine lady. She is learning much in the way of art, science, and her favorite music. Then one day her science teacher tells her and the rest of his science class that they will be going on a class field trip to a nearby island to study the flora and the fauna. But when the faithful day comes Mistress Pimm, the science teacher, and even the faithful Mr. Higgins fall to a sudden sickness and the girls are left in the hands of a strange man and his slave. As they pull out into the water Jacky starts to notice some strange things, suddenly the girls find themselves held at gunpoint and forced onto a slave ship bound for Northern Africa. Now it is up to Jacky and the fine ladies of the Lawson Peabody to escape; but can Jacky make up with her long time enemy. the person who made Jacky look like a fool, the cunning and snobbish Clarissa Worthington Howe, at least for long enough to escape?
This book was filled with wild songs, some dancing, and even a ghost. This is one of my favorite book series and I have read it multiple times. My favorite part was when Jacky and Clarissa were coming back from stealing things out of the storage areas, but when they came back one of the slavers is running an inspection, so in order to avoid detection Jacky jumps on to Clarissa and the two stage a little bit of a romance. I would recommend this book to teens and adults who love pirate stories and roaring adventures on the high seas.

Veritas Project: Hangman's Curse
Frank Peretti
The Springfield family are going undercover in order to help out the FBI with a strange case at a local high school. Several of the high school's star football players have gone insane and the rumor around school is that it is the ghost of "Able Frye" a student that hanged himself in the school. Elijah and Elisha the two kids go undercover as students and their parents as staff. But as they dive into the legends and secrets of the school they find out the cause of the problems may not be what they thought.
This book was very suspenseful and kept me hanging on every word. My favorite part was when Elijah beat up the bully that was picking on another student. I would recommend this book to teens and adults who like mysteries. Children should not read this book because the ending is pretty scary.

Sci-fi
The Mammoth Book of SteamPunk
Sean Wallace
This book is a variety of different short stories written by various authors. They are filled with robots, airships, and maybe just a touch of magic.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes machines and science. This is more of a book for teenagers and adults because there are some parts that are a little bit inappropriate. However some of these stories are very good and exciting and I enjoyed every page of it.

This book is all about a young girl who is trying to find herself and to figure out her past. My favorite part is when Elias and Gabrielle have to rescue Catcher's sister from prison. I would recommend this book to people who like romance and adventure. Definitely a book worth reading!

Guide Book
The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World
Susan Veness
Have you ever been to Disney World? Well even if you have never been to Disney World or any of the Disney parks you should still check out this book. In between the covers of this book are over 600 secrets about some of the most popular Disney parks. Along with the facts this book gives you facts from each parks history and the rides that they have.
This book was very interesting and informative. I learned a lot of things from this book that I did not know. For instance I learned that at Disney's Animal Kingdom some of the animals at the park are actually real animals and they are trained to recognize certain sound ques in order to go about their normal day. I would recommend this book to any one who has been to the Disney parks and wants to get some insider knowledge and to people who are going so that they can look for the little things that most people do not see when they go the parks.

She also learns that she has to be help save another land the land of Thorn, but when she does things go wrong and she must find a way to fix it.
This was really good and very exciting. One of the best sci-fi books that i have ever read. I think that it was amazing and my favorite part was when Aoife and her friend went flying in an airship. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes sci-fis dealing with machines. Also to anyone who likes stories with ghouls and other mythical creatures.

Old Western
True Grit
Charles Portis
Young Mattie Ross is out for revenge. Tom Chaney shot and killed her father and stole his horse, his money, and two California gold pieces. She sets out to look for the U.S marshal Rooster Cogburn a man who they say has true grit. Together with the help of a Texas ranger named LaBoef they go after Tom Chaney. They finally catch up to Chaney but killing him is not as easy as Mattie would have imagined.
A very good classic western story, complete with cowboys vigilantes, gunfights, and good old fashion American justice. My favorite part was when Rooster, LaBoef, and Mattie get into a gun fight with a bunch of vigilantes. I recommend this book to anyone who likes western stories, can be a book for teenagers and adults alike. It will bring back old memories for the adults of cowboy adventures and riding off into the sunsets.

Chinese Mystery
The Eye Of Jade
Diane Wei Liang
Mei Wang is a private detective living in the busy city of Beijing, where she works with her very handy male secretary. But no matter what she does with herself or her business she can not seem to escape her chilling past that claimed her father's life or the mother who is never proud of her. When she suddenly gets called to a case to search for an ancient jade seal she finds out more about her history than she ever wanted to know.
Personally I do not think that this book was very good. It was very confusing to follow because it kept turning from present to memories of Mei. Also the story line was not very good because most of it was really weak. But I would still recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries.

Close Encounters of the God Kind
The Shack
William Young
What started out as a fun weekend camp out turned into the worst weekend of Mackenzie Phillip's life. His young daughter Missy was abducted and killed by a serial killer called the Little LadkyKiller. One year after that they find evidence that Missy was held in a tumble down shack. These events haunt Mack's life for a very long time, when suddenly he receives a strange letter from God telling him to go back to the shack. Mack goes to the shack where he encounters three beings, God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Together the three of them have to teach Mack to forgive the killer, learn how to trust God again, and how to let go of his Great Sadness.
This book was very good and hit on some very strong theological points. It is a very good read for anyone who is interested in studying religion or just finding a good book about coming back to your life after a traumatic experience. My favorite part of this book was when Mack finally forgave the killer for killing Missy. This is a good book for adults and teens, because it can get very deep and confusing.

To Infinity and Beyond
The Martian Chronicles
Ray Bradbury
Earth is falling apart and man looks again to the skies to provide an answer. But this time instead of the moon we are heading to Mars. A group of astronauts sets off to Mars and when they arrive there they discover the Martians happily living there in great gleaming cities. Through many hardships and struggles man takes over Mars and makes the red planet his home. But Mars still holds many secrets and dangers that will come back to haunt the Earth-men reminding them that though they inhabit the planet, the planet can still conquer your mind and cast its spell on your life and dreams.
This was a very interesting book filled with many short stories listed by date. My favorite story was a Ray Bradbury classic "There Will Come Soft Rains". I would recommend this book to people who love sci-fi books and people who are interested in aliens or space. A good book for teenagers and adults, but not for kids because it has some sci-fi violence and swearing.

An Old Classic
To Kill a Mockingbird
Harper Lee
Young Jean Louise Finch also known as "Scout" is living in a small town in the South with her brother Jem and her father Atticus a respected lawyer. Together her, Jem, and a young boy called "Dill" set out on several adventures the highlight of which is trying to get the infamous "Boo" Radley to come out of his house. Scout narrates her take on what happens in the neighborhood, even when her father is made to take a case involving a black man that supposedly raped a white girl. But through all the problems Scout, Jem, and Dill plan on having the most fun they can including almost getting shot, breaking bones, running away from home, and dressing up like a giant ham.
This was a very good book and I do not see why they banned it. It was very interesting and there are a lot of surprising events and characters. My favorite part was when Scout is in the school play and she makes her teacher embarrassed by making her shout "PORK!" over and over. A really good book that everyone should read at least once. A book more for older kids and adults because it does have some swearing and could be hard to follow for the younger kids.

A Secret World
Neverwhere
Neil Gaiman
Richard Mayhew was an ordinary man with an ordinary life. He has a great girlfriend and a great job. Everything was going great until he sees a young girl on the side walk who was bleeding. After that things start to change; people do not notice him anymore, they ignore him and act like he was not there. He finds out that he has become a part of London Below a secret world filled with people who fell through the cracks of ordinary society. The only way that he could get back to normal is to help the little girl who has a strange power to find the people that murdered her entire family.
Very interesting book and it is filled with surprises and interesting events and characters. I loved the part when Richard has to defeat the Beast of London with Hunter. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy books and books with a little mystery. More of an adult or a teenager book because it has some violent parts.

Perspective
Cracked Up To Be
Courtney Summers
Parker Fadley used to have it all; an all-star boyfriend, she was the captain of the cheer leading squad, and got straight "A"s in all of her classes. But then one night she goes to a party and things get out of control. She gets drunk off her mind and says things that she should not have to the wrong people. When she returns to school and everything changes. Then a new boy comes to school he threatens to break down all of the walls that Parker has built up to protect herself. Parker has to fight with her past, but when her secret comes out and she can not hide the fragile state that she is in.
This book was extremely good and I would lovingly read it again. This book shows that you should not judge people simply by how they are making themselves out to be, because you do not know what battles they are fighting on the inside. I would recommend this book to anyone who is going through a tough time as well as adults who deal with people that are going through problems. My favorite part was when Jake rescues Parker from being caught at school drunk and takes her to his house.

An Inside Look
Some Girls Are
Courtney Summers
Regina Afton senior at Hallowell High used to be Anna Morris's best friend. But when she gets into a bad situation with Anna's boyfriend she tries to reach out to someone who she thought was her friend, her friend turns around and tells a rumor to the entire school. Now she is an outcast "frozen out" by Anna and her clique. And worse then that Anna is determined to make her life a living hell, she torments Regina by spreading vicious rumors about things shes done, telling all of her secrets, and turning everyone against her. But then Regina finds a friend in the last person expected a boy named Michael who is an out cast himself. As Regina tries to make amends with her former friends her feelings for Michael get her into some hot water.
This book was very good and eye opening, it brings some key perspective into the secrets of high school. It brings light to the ways of bullies and what happens to the people that are bullied. I would recommend this book to teenagers and adults who like books about problems and how people solve these problems. My favorite part is when Liz one of the girls that was bullied by Anna and Regina stands up for Regina and threatens to tell the principal about what Anna did to Regina.

Tear Jerking Autobiography
The Lost Boy
David Pelzer
David Pelzer tells the next part of his childhood. When David was a small boy he was horribly abused by his mother. Locked in the garage, fed with table scraps, and the worst part...suffering through his mothers "games" after she had too much to drink. Finally the time comes David runs away but is soon caught. He thinks that this is the end but what he does not know is that there is an angel coming to rescue him. A social worker named Miss. Gold, she takes David out of his mother's house and puts him into the foster care system. At first David is over joyed finally he can be a normal boy, but soon people start treating him different because he is a foster kid or an "F-child". No one wants to keep him and he bounces around through several homes. All David wants is to feel the love of a family but that dream seems to be crumbling down around him.
This was a very sad, but very enlightening book. David really has a great story to tell and it can teach us all about the trials of foster care and that we should not treat people according to their backrounds. If you get the chance you should read the first book before this one, it is called A Child Called It and it talks about David's early childhood. I loved this book it was hard to put down. A good book for teens and adults as well. But beware it might just make you cry.

The End??
Dark and Hollow Places
Carrie Ryan
The Dark City. the last stronghold against the ever present onslaught of the Unconsecrated. People trying to survive and avoid coming into contact with the Recruiters, the rogue military force that keeps the people "safe". But in this city there is a girl named Annah, that has fought hard to survive on her own since she was abandoned by her friend. Finally she is on her way to leave the city for good when she spots a site that takes her breath away. She catches a glimpse of a girl that looks exactly like her. She finds out that the girl, Gabry is her sister. They reunite but are imprisoned on the Recruiters island with Catcher and Elias. Now they must find a way off the island if they want to survive, but that is easier said then done.
I enjoyed this book a lot. It was a great next chapter of this thrilling series. Anyone who has started to read this series must read this book as it shows yet another perspective on the effects of the Return. A thrilling book that will leave you wanting more. Pick it up now but make sure you start with The Forest of Hands and Teeth.

Attention All Casters
Beautiful Creatures
Kami Garcia
Ethan Wate has lived in the small town of Gatlin, South Carolina his whole life. Living with his father who never leaves his study, and his housekeeper Amma who has a way with magic. Nothing exciting ever happens until Lena Duchannes arrives. As soon as she steps into Gatlin strange things begin to happen, glass breaks in the school and Ethan has strange dreams that include Lena. But when Ethan falls in love with Lena he finds out a little bit more than he was expecting about Lena. Including a past, a curse, and a future which could lead to someones untimely death.
This book was really good with lots of suspense and exciting twists. I loved the part when Ethan took Lena to the prom and the author described her dress beautifully. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes magic both good and bad and when those magics collide, also to the people who enjoy a little bit of romance but not all the mushy stuff. More of a teenager book but I am sure that adults will love it too.

Modern Romeo and Juliett
Perfect Chemistry
Simone Elkeles
Brittany Ellis and Alejandro Fuentes could not be anymore different, or so everybody thinks. But everyone has something that they are trying to hide. But what happens when they start to fall for each other and the social lines between their two lives are crossed. What will people think and what will happen when things start to go wrong.
I loved this book, it was a great read. This book is definatly for people who like romance but also a little bit of danger. I love how the author really added culture to this book and used some Spanish words. I would recommend this book to High School kids and adults as there is some language and some sexual scenes.

The Story Continues
Dead Tossed Waves
Written By Carrie Ryan
Young Gabrielle is growing up in the small coastal town of Vista surrounded by the Forest of Hands and Teeth. And in the course of one night everything changes, her friends sneak out to an old amusement park for some fun. While there she finds love in a boy named Catcher, but just before they could get any closer the Mudo breach the fences. Gabrielle is the only one that escapes, and she find out that Catcher is still out there. She ventures out into the Forest to look for Catcher but instead discovered a secret cult and a boy named Elias. While Gabrielle is trying to hide the secret of her going outside the boundary her mother leaves and Gabrielle kills a man, she has to run away. Now Gabrielle has to figure out what to do and whether or not her choices are right.
This is the epic sequel to "The Forest of Hands and Teeth", a very good book if you want to find out what happens in another part of the Forest. It's a great book and has a lot of romantic parts. This book is all about a young girl who is trying to find herself and to figure out her past. My favorite part is when Elias and Gabrielle have to rescue Catcher's sister from prison. I would recommend this book to people who like romance and adventure. Definitely a book worth reading!
